The Miami Design Preservation League and the City of Miami Beach hosted a powerful celebration on Thursday, July 17, 2025, of the extraordinary Black artists and musicians who lived during the Art Deco era.
We honored their legacy through presentations about them and a live performance by Maryel Epps — a vocal powerhouse who’s performed with names like Billy Taylor, Bob Dylan, Chaka Khan, Dizzy Gillespie, David Bowie, Patti LaBelle, and even opened for Prince. MDPL and the City of Miami Beach’s culture crawl event was educational, emotional and unforgettable. That was in no small part because of the phenomenal presenters, including Maryel Epps, Steven Anthony, Troy E. Wright, Glendon Hall, Paul Thomas, Bebe Andrade and George Neary. The event took place at the Galería Ocean Drive at Lummus Park (1101 Ocean Drive).
