Don’t miss the Miami Design Preservation League’s upcoming “The Art of Architecture” lecture on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 at the Art Deco Welcome Center, located at 1001 Ocean Drive on Miami Beach.

At the event, award-winning art critic and art journalist Elisa Turner will discuss her new book, “Miami’s Art Boom: From Local Vision to International Presence” (University Press of Florida, October 2025), which celebrates the creative forces that propelled Miami’s visual arts scene onto the international stage! Featuring more than 100 of Turner’s best profiles, reviews and stories, the book explores the artists, curators, galleries and museums, and the public and private funding, that have shaped Miami into this global hub — before and after the arrival of Art Basel Miami Beach in 2002.

What would Miami Beach be like without Historic Art Deco, Mediterranean, and MiMo buildings?
