The Art of Architecture: 100th Anniversary of the 1925 Art Deco Exposition with George Neary & Melissa Berthier

Art Deco Museum

Thu, April 17th @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm EDT

Free
Join us for a fascinating discussion on Thursday, April 17, to mark the 100th anniversary of the 1925 International Exposition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris. It’s credited with spreading art deco architecture around the world, including the tropical style specific to Miami Beach. Think rounded eyebrows over windows to provide shade from our bright sunshine, portholes and the exquisite ship-like lines. We have more than 800 designated historic buildings — the largest concentration of art deco buildings in the United States. The conversation will feature George T. Neary, the Miami Design Preservation League’s Interim Executive Director and Melissa Berthier, the City of Miami Beach’s Director of Marketing & Communications. In addition to looking at the impact of that exposition on Miami Beach and its architecture, we’ll also hear more about the latest issue of Miami Beach Magazine celebrating our beautiful art deco. Come pick up your copy on Thursday!
