Operation Moses was the covert rescue of more than 10,000 Beta Israel – the Ethiopian Jews – from the 1984 famine and civil war. Thousands of members of this community, who lived for centuries in the region, sought to return to their ancestral homeland. They traveled by foot to refugee camps in Sudan and were eventually taken in this remarkable operation to a new life in Israel, further enriching the diverse mosaic of people in the state.
This event will feature a panel discussion with individuals who were part of or witnessed Operation Moses and have written about the historic mission and the Ethiopian Jewish community, as well as an exhibition of artifacts and photographs that bring this historic operation to life. Two of our panelists have their work featured in the exhibition.
