Thu, November 10th @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EST

From Haiti to Cuba

The vital cultural connections between Haiti and Cuba, separated as they are by just 50 miles of sea, have helped shape the larger story of music in the Caribbean basin. Dancer and educator Nancy St Léger and her ensemble will offer an evening of discussion, rhythm, and dance that explore the Franco-Afro-Haitian influence on the evolution of Cuban music, spawning new genres that spread to the United States and around the world.

Co-presented with IPC ArtSpace, Miami Soundscapes, and The Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab. Co-sponsored by the African and African Diaspora Studies Program and the Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center at FIU. Made possible with partial support from LACC’s US Department of Education Title VI Grant. Part of LACC’s Haitian Studies Program of Excellence.
