Boot Camp in Paradise - Opening

The City of Miami Beach is launching a new outdoor exhibition entitled “Boot Camp in Paradise.” The exhibit will highlight the period from 1942 to 1945 when Miami Beach transformed from a tourist haven to a military training hub for the U.S. Army Air Forces. The City collaborated with the Wolfsonian-FIU on the project.

A series of events are being planned to coincide with the exhibit, which will be located across from the Villa Casa Casuarina at 11th and Ocean Drive. An opening unveiling ceremony is scheduled for November 11th at 1pm, and the public is welcome to attend.

The installation is being called “Galería Ocean Drive,” and it has been produced by the Miami Beach Mayor’s office staff, including Senior Policy Advisor – and historian – Daniel Sommer, as well as Djordje Milekic, Senior Branding Manager. The City of Miami Beach Commission recently funded $50,000 for the production of the exhibit, which will be on view through Jan 2025.

Opening Event November 11th

Please join Mayor Steven Meiner for an unveiling on November 11th, 2024 at 1pm, at 1101 Ocean Drive in Lummus Park.
