We are excited to share a special event celebrating the legacy of Desi Arnaz, the Cuban-American actor, musician, and television pioneer. On Tuesday, the City of Miami Beach will unveil a State of Florida Historical Marker in honor of Arnaz’s remarkable contributions to the entertainment industry and his impact on our community. The unveiling ceremony will take place in Collins Park at 4pm.
Best known for his role in the iconic television show I Love Lucy, Arnaz was also a groundbreaking producer and co-founder of Desilu Productions, a company that revolutionized television. His influence extended far beyond the screen, and his ties to Miami Beach are an important part of our city’s rich cultural heritage.
In January, Miami Design Preservation League’s Art Deco Weekend hosted Gary McKechnie for a talk entitled: Miami’s Desi Arnaz: Achieving the American Dream. McKechnie is the driving force behind the historical marker initiative. You can view the video from the lecture here:
Join us at historic Collins Park as we commemorate Desi Arnaz with a historic marker, recognizing his lasting impact on both the entertainment world and Miami Beach. Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the life and work of a true visionary!
