MDPL Interview with Artist Sergey Serebrennikov:

Hello Sergey, very nice to meet you. We’re so excited to have your artwork displayed here at the Art Deco Museum!

MDPL: Tell us a little bit about your journey as an artist and how it all began…

Sergey: In 2015, I relocated to Miami and had the opportunity to experience the vibrant atmosphere of the Art Deco Weekend. Intrigued by its energy and artistic allure, I felt drawn to immerse myself in the world of visual expression. Shortly after, I stumbled upon a contest for a poster design for ADWE, and I enthusiastically decided to participate. Crafting several options, I poured my creativity into the designs and submitted them. To my astonishment, I emerged as the contest winner. As part of the prize, I was granted an exhibition at the Art Deco Museum, a prospect that both thrilled and challenged me. Despite lacking existing artwork for the exhibition, I embraced the opportunity to create. In a whirlwind of inspiration, I produced eight pieces inspired by the essence of Miami Beach. This pivotal experience not only marked the beginning of my artistic journey but also steered me towards embracing the Art Deco style, a path that continues to shape my artistic expression to this day.

MDPL: We’re glad to learn Art Deco has had such a monumental impact on your artwork, and we’re intrigued to know about your creative process. Tell us about your artistic style and mediums used.

Sergey: As a digital artist, I primarily create my works using my laptop, allowing me to seamlessly blend traditional and modern techniques. My artistic style is a fusion of Art Deco influences and contemporary illustration, resulting in visually captivating compositions. I have a penchant for pastel colors, which infuse my artwork with a soft and dreamy quality. One distinctive element in my pieces is the inclusion of a heart on the lips of the female figures, serving as my signature touch and symbolizing the passion and emotion infused into each creation.

MDPL: Your signature heart-shaped lips are truly iconic! What inspired you to create your latest exhibit?

Sergey: The stunning architecture of Miami Beach served as the primary inspiration for my exhibit. Drawn to the iconic landmarks and Art Deco structures that define the city’s skyline, I sought to capture the essence of Miami Beach in my artwork. Each piece is a homage to the unique sights and vibrant energy of the city, inviting viewers to experience its charm and beauty through my creative lens.

MDPL: Everyone is loving your exhibit here at the Art Deco Museum, Sergey. You truly do capture the essence of Miami Beach beautifully. Where can we find more of your artwork?

Sergey: You can find my artwork on the wall of the Art Deco Museum Welcome Center and also at Cool Shite Gallery in Wynwood, where I have a mural. Additionally, if you happen to be in Kyiv (Ukraine) you can explore a panoramic illustration I created for the grocery store Silpo.
