Thousands of members of this community\, who lived for centuries in the region\, sought to return to their ancestral homeland. They traveled by foot to refugee camps in Sudan and were eventually taken in this remarkable operation to a new life in Israel\, further enriching the diverse mosaic of people in the state. \nThis event will feature a panel discussion with individuals who were part of or witnessed Operation Moses and have written about the historic mission and the Ethiopian Jewish community\, as well as an exhibition of artifacts and photographs that bring this historic operation to life. Two of our panelists have their work featured in the exhibition. Antisemitism has ginormously increased here in the US and globally and has become normalized\, especially on college campuses\, and mostly based on conspiracy theories. Florida hosts the nation’s second-largest number of hate groups: 89. More than a quarter of the world thinks that everything Jews do is wrong and that all wrongs are done by Jews. Why have antisemitism and resulting hate crimes increased since the COVID-19 pandemic and the Israel-Hamas war? Antisemitism\, a virus that mutates with every generation\, has been the early warning signal of a society in danger over history. Why? Using degenerate artworks that demonstrate antisemitism’s genesis and tropes\, Marcia Jo Zerivitz demonstrates the current situation\, the historical background of antisemitism and the insidious power of imagery in communicating the agenda of hatred\, including Christian roots\, the Middle Ages\, the modern world and contemporary racist images since the Civil War covering eugenics\, the klan\, neo-nazis\, restrictive covenants\, and white supremacy. \nThis 65-minute PowerPoint presentation\, created from 40 years of Zerivitz’s research\, includes the challenges of social media and the internet in the spread of antisemitism and actions to help combat Jew hatred that began 2\,300 years ago. \nDial-In Information \nSimply click the Zoom link and you will be admitted into the waiting room: https://fiu.zoom.us/j/84554599030#success \nEvent page: https://calendar.fiu.edu/event/can-i-see-the-horns-roots-of-antisemitism-presented-by-marcia-jo-zerivitz URL:https://mdpl.org/event/can-i-see-the-horns-roots-of-antisemitism-presented-by-marcia-jo-zerivitz/ LOCATION:Virtual event CATEGORIES:Public Lecture ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/webp:https://mdpl.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/jewishmuseum.webp END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20240415T190000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20240415T210000 DTSTAMP:20240328T184757 CREATED:20240321T183604Z LAST-MODIFIED:20240321T183604Z UID:10012005-1713207600-1713214800@mdpl.org SUMMARY:Jews and India: Professor Nathan Katz DESCRIPTION: Monday\, April 15th at 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm \n Jewish Museum of Florida\n301 Washington Ave\, Miami Beach\, FL 33199 United States \n\n\n\nThe Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU invites you to its upcoming lecture Jews and India: Professor Nathan Katz. \nJews have lived in India for two thousand years and have exerted a surprising influence over this vast and friendly host\, while quite naturally receiving influences from India. During this talk\, we will view how Jewish communities have interacted with their predominantly Hindu host\, how individual Jews have impacted Indian religious practice\, commercial ethics\, and even Mughal emperors! And more recently\, interreligious dialogues have inspired the Dalai Lama and led leading rabbis to conclude that Hinduism is not idolatrous and that\, in fact\, Jews and Hindus worship the same One god. \n  URL:https://mdpl.org/event/jews-and-india-professor-nathan-katz/ LOCATION:Jewish Museum-FIU\, 301 Washington Ave\, Miami Beach\, FL\, 33139\, United States CATEGORIES:Public Lecture ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/webp:https://mdpl.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/jewishmuseum.webp END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
