The Lucy Project has teamed up with Miami Beach Bandshell, George Porter Jr & The Runnin’ Pardners and Jon Cleary for what will be our first Annual Concert Fundraiser. The Lucy Project was created to help support struggling readers. By offering free in-school programs and affordable out-of-school remediation with highly-trained educators, we are committed to making literacy accessible to all. All proceeds go to direct services at The Lucy Project for evidence-based reading remediation.
George Porter Jr. is an award winning bassist, songwriter and vocalist. George Porter Jr. & Runnin’ Pardners will headline the event and play a 90 minute set. They play locally and tour prolifically, garnering respect not only as the quintessential New Orleans’ band, but also as a major national attraction within the jam band and festival scene.
Jon Cleary will perform as a special guest with a 60 minute piano set opening the show. ‘Today, Jon Cleary’s work pays obvious homage to the classic Crescent City keyboard repertoire created by such icons as Jelly RollMorton, Fats Domino, Professor Longhair, Art Neville, Dr. John, and James Booker – while also using it as a launching pad for a style that incorporates such diverse influences as ’70s soul and R & B, gospel music, funk, Afro Caribbean and Afro-Cuban rhythms, and much more.
